The
solution recommended to me has always been 7% iodine and formaldehyde,
mixed 50-50. One cannot get formaldehyde in a drug store anymore (at
least not in CA), but I can get it from a vet. This mixture works
well. I have been told to paint it on the sole, but not on the
frog. If you get it on your hands, it certainly toughens the
skin. Formaldehyde is poisonous, and I would guess that's why it is
not easily available anymore. I always store this on a very high
shelf.
