Re: [RC] Hoof toughening - Barbara McCraryThe solution recommended to me has always been 7% iodine and formaldehyde, mixed 50-50. One cannot get formaldehyde in a drug store anymore (at least not in CA), but I can get it from a vet. This mixture works well. I have been told to paint it on the sole, but not on the frog. If you get it on your hands, it certainly toughens the skin. Formaldehyde is poisonous, and I would guess that's why it is not easily available anymore. I always store this on a very high shelf.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Sherrell" <mike@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Paso List (E-mail)" <PasoAficion2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "Ridecamp (E-mail)" <Ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 8:42 AM Subject: [RC] Hoof toughening I was told that iodine applied to the sole will toughen hooves. Then I was told that Betadine would do it. A couple of weeks ago my vet said Betadine with sugar added was even better. Does anyone have any views on this? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
