Have you seen the gadget that Clinton Anderson endorses? It is a ring with a bar (hard to explain) that is used to train horses to tie. It gives a secure enough hold to make them think they are tied, however, if they bolt or put all their weight on it, it WILL slide through. He also has a CD you get with it to help train your horse to tie.
