[RC] Helmets - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Jenny Powers jpowers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Several years ago I worked in a for-profit brain injury rehab center in Scottsdale, AZ. A pretty, slim 40 yr old woman was admitted for therapy -- her husband was desperate to help her and quite able to afford the cost of the private hospital. She participated in the therapeutic riding program through the rehab center and I volunteered for the program. She was an accomplished hunter jumper rider and they lived on a large property in New England. She was injured while riding on her property, without a helmet, when her horse shied and reared, the woman fell and hit the back of her head. She will never regain her former life. It was so sad that she retained her love of riding but had no memory -- could not be left alone because she'd wander off, leave the stove on, leave doors open, couldn't drive, couldn't find her way home. Their beautiful life together was gone and her husband had lost his partner. I know of many other accidents resulting in head injuries since that time and wearing a helmet has saved the riders from serious long term injury. Wearing your helmet means you realize you've got something worth protecting. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
