Re: [RC] Helmets . . . Again - Barbara MoultonI was a ride anything with four legs bareback and bounce when it didn't go well and get back on as a kid. I always wear a helmet now having broken one into four pieces when I was training Joy in 2000- no didn't get thrown from her it was the big QH/draft cross I jumped on bareback to ride out into the big ranch pasture to catch Joy. A little trip and I slammed head first so fast I didn't know what happened. A head injury can be a sudden death but also can be the first day of the rest of your brain damaged life. When I had my cancer surgery the hospital kept shoving "advanced directives" at me to sign so I wouldn't "suffer" any indignitites if things went south.( as was expected at the time) As a sped teacher I have strong feelings about dictating to God what kind of life I will accept for myself. My students never had a choice about living with their various disabilties BUT.. I don't think I have any business taking chances with the good fortune of my health and usually average intellect.
