Re: [RC] cover photo - rides2farAnd Angie, > I love your safety cages! (Choose not to use them myself.) When your time is > up, it's up. We thought Kara Drisbow's time was up at Biltmore this year. Her horse fell on its side with her, then when it jumped up she found that her foot on the *top* side had slipped thorugh the stirrup. The horse bolted through the woods. She had on a paddock boot with half chap on top. Fortunately, her boot came off (miracle) and she came loose. I guess her time up but, faulty paddock boots didn't stay on so her time suddenly *wasn't* up? :-) I too have seen the view, laying on my back looking up at a running horse that's dragging me. Not something you forget. In my case I was riding in a race at a bush track. When my horse came out of the starting gates the billet on my cheap English saddle popped (it was just nailed to the tree). I felt something wrong but the saddle didn't go under his belly until the far turn about 1/4 mile into the race and WIDE open. I had on boots with a heel, and the stirrups were the kind that are supposed to release on a jumping saddle. Neither saved me from getting hung up. I just remember looking up and thinking "I'm drug" (my pronunciation of past tense drag), then the other billet gave and I just tumbled and at some point sat *really* hard on that steel stirrup at 30 mph or so. Let's just say my first epesiotomy was 7 stitches did not involve giving birth. I love my cages. When somebody tells me *my* time's up I'll argue.
