RE: Re: [RC] 20 MT and Little Big Man - heidiseems like in order to satisfy that requirement, Truman, a child would need tom be old and big enough to take care of his own horse. Neither of our kids at 6 could do that. Aside from saddling, etc., they do need to be able to trot a horse out for the vet, feed and water the horse, The 7-year-old that I sponsored was able to do everything completely on his own except saddle his horse--he wasn't quite tall enough for that. But he knew exactly what his horse was supposed to eat and took care of it, helped lug water buckets, was totally in control when riding, trotted for the vet, loaded and unloaded his horse in the trailer, and was in general quite articulate as to his horse's needs. He even gave a pretty good independent interview to a newspaper reporter who talked to him just before the ride. His comment when he got in the rig with me was, "If I was older, I'd help you drive!" When they are ready, they are ready. Period. There is no magic calendar age.
