Re: [RC] 20 MT and Little Big Man - Karen Sullivan----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Morris" <bobmorris@xxxxxxxx> Well, up to this point I have stayed out of the conflab about children. However I will make this observation, If the age requirement is for the safety of the child I would recommend that all pregnant women be denied entry to any AERC Endurance Ride in order to protect the unborn child. Chew on that one for a while. Bob -------- Sorry Bob, pretty silly argument.....a fetus is pretty darn well protected inside the womb....I ran a nursery business (hefting very heavy flats of plants) AND rode my horse bareback when I was pregnant. Tell me...is there ANY age where you think it might be risky to put a child on a horse and that them through a sanctioned endurane ride? A year old baby strapped into a basket strapped onto a horse? Is that okay? Also, we aren't just talking about taking a small child on a horsey or pony ride....we are talking about a sanctioned ENDURANCE RIDE; with some serious competitors and some extremely fit, strong and often out of control horses. . If my daughter (who was riding on her own at age 6 on a safe pony and did her first 25 at age 8) and raised on horses, decided to take a future grandkid of mine on an endurance ride before they were 6 I would tell her she is flat out nuts. I would not support it, OR be proud of it. Sponsoring junior riders is a wonderful thing to do, can be extremely fun and rewarding and nobody is arguing that....but toddlers? When is that NOT safe or okay?
