Re: [RC] Age of horse and first 100 ride - Jon . LindermanMy horse Spiffy turned 16 last year. He had about 15 or so 50's under his belt since 2003 & did his 1st two 100's last year and did fine. I plan to do more this year. He might be 16, but he neither looks or acts 16 & I've been very conservative w/him in his 1500 or so miles thus far. He may be 17 by the time we can get to another 100 this year but we'll do more as long as he is able and having fun. Jon
15 isn't too old...just ask Angie. Angie's borrowed mount, Aries, did her first 100 at 15. (she actually did it better than the two younger horses) Now at 16, she will be carrying Angie again thru the Biltmore and the OD 100's !!!!!!! (We hope ) :)) "rides2far@xxxxxxxx" <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> wrote: >>>I I would prefer to take my older mare (who will be 15 next year) as she has been doing this sport since 1999 and is very able to pace herself and relax and enjoy the work. I wonder if this is too old to do her first 100 mile ride? The other mare has just as much >>>desire to work, You lucky dog. Sounds like you've got TWO 100 mile horses. Better hit ALL the rides to get the good out of them...or you can just do like Jody...let a friend ride the other one along with you. :-)) Angie =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
