Bone density is started when we are growing
up. Using those bones, ie exercise, manual labor, helps keep them
stronger. Osteoporosis tends to be genetic. A typical person who has
this is a female who isslender of build, works secretarial type work, and
doesn't exercise. Lack of dairy products in the diet is also a
cause.
Riding horses makes one use all muscles and
bones. Therefore, seems to me riding is a great exercise for the
prevention of it. If one already has it, there are several meds developed
to help reduce it and help rebuild bone density.
If one rides a calm trustworthy horse, then riding
should still be possible. Those 'hotshot' riders will need buyers for
their older horses. I have heard the older 'ranch' used horses are good
because they don't spook, etc as they have already been exposed to so
much.
As we all age, we need to be aware of the fact that
our bodies need more 'care' than when we are young. However, all those old
injuries catch up to haunt us as we age with aches predicting the 'cold'
weather. We either get older or we die. No one is getting out of
this life alive so go out and enjoy it all.
