My mare has a girth problem as well. We use Desitin... of course we  also use a mohair girth. (the mare is allergic to synthetics) We lather  it on before we put the girth on. It seems to help. J

I forgot to add that I use a synthetic girth (the Wintec one) so would like to know if the aloe or Vaseline is safe to use on it?  I know some ointments etc will harm the synthetics.
