I've been phasing in and out of this thread like some yahoo come to the ER
on an LD 50 of heroin. (Amount of drug that = the Lethal Dose for 50% of the
people ingesting it.)

New to the sport, and to threads that return like comets to Ridecamp, I
admit to always having winced at the term "Limited Distance." It sounds
so....limiting.  A few posts back, someone suggested changing LD to mean
"Long Distance." I like that. It gives the 25-30 mi rides a more positive
spin, and yet everyone would know that it refers to a shorter distance than
*E*ndurance. 

Reminds me of a story, possibly apocryphal, told by one of my patients at
Apple who worked mostly out of Tokyo. He claimed that in Japan, they sell
condoms by size. Since no one wants to belly up to the counter and ask for
"small," the condoms are sized like olives: large, extra large, and jumbo.

So maybe the AERC needs to extend the same semantic sensitivity to the
shorter lengths of its...uh...members.
