Re: [RC] Electricity 101 - Sisu West RanchElectricity 101:1. Only plug 120 V into 120 V, and 240 V into 240 V. Note: Most if not all campgrounds that offer 240 also offer 120 at each site. Lots of camps only offer 120 V. 240 V hooked up to 120 V burns things out, with spectacular sparks on occasion. 120 hooked up to 240 volt, either does not get hot or light is really dim, motors (like air conditioners) over heat and burn out. 2. The reason for 240 is that there are appliances (air conditioners, strip heaters) that need more power (about 2400 watts total) than an ordinary 120 V 20 A socket provides. They are clearly labeled, or your trailer is clearly labeled as 240 V only. They use a different plug, than the standard household plug. 3.Most horse trailers are 120V wired, because it gives the owner the most options. 4. Some trailers/campgrounds use strange looking plugs, just because they can. (Sometimes because they are set up for 120 V but more than 20 amps, sometimes because twist-lock plugs don't come unplugged as easliy) Ed Ed & Wendy Hauser 2994 Mittower Road Victor, MT 59875 (406) 642-9640 ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
