[RC] Death Valley Photos - Karen

Here are some photos from days 2 and 3. I have some from day 1 but haven't put them up yet, there aren't very many as it was to difficult to use the camera in the wind (with all of the layers I had on). After the wind stopped the ride weather could not have been more perfect. The high winds and trail tampering have taken their toll on some of the trail markings. This is where taking the time to read the maps have paid off. I rode with Elfta the first two days and with Amanda (from Oregon) today and so far haven't gotten lost (knocking on wood). Today was the third day and what was the first day from last year. Tomorrow is the fourth and final day, and what was day two previously.

Awards have been a bit amiss due to the fact that Jackie's trailer was stolen the morning before the ride started right out of ridecamp, and it contained a lot of our awards among other things. It hasn't been found yet. We have gotten Death Valley mugs with our names on them, and will get plaques and if we do four days on the same horse a sweatshirt.

Two dogs today from the area followed horses through the entire ride. We named them Jack and Jill (as they went up the hill). They have been taken in by riders here and will be returned to their owners asap. Poor little things, I bet they are going to be sleeping a lot tomorrow! There are some photos of them in the day 3 photos. Endurance doggies!

Tonight Tulip was awarded a plaque for becoming the highest mileage AERC horse. On the first day of the ride I caught Tulip as he was trotting down the center of 395 by himself. Just moments after having bucked Les off going up a hill. Tulip stopped when I called his name and waited for me to come and get him.

I've got a party hat ready for Zenos for tomorrow's ride. After the ride we are having a party with a live band. What a great way to celebrate the new year!
