RE: [RC] Should I buy new spares? - David LeBlancDepends on whether you ever use them 8-) If you don't use them, it isn't important at all. Also depends on whether you have 4 or 6 tires, and how willing you are to change more than one tire at a time in the event of a flat. If a front tire were to blow or go flat, you'd have to replace both fronts with both spares, OR you'd have to move a rear to the front, and replace it with a spare. If both fronts aren't the same size, the vehicle won't track straight. If a rear goes, it depends on how far you have to drive, and how many tires you have in back. If you have 2 tires in back, replace one with the smaller spare, then the differential thinks you're always turning, and if you drove very far, would self destruct, and you wouldn't go anywhere. If you have 4, odds are the spare wouldn't do much of anything since it would be smaller in diameter, but would be a safety measure in case the one next to the one that blew also went. The best thing to do, if you have the money, would be to replace both spares with the same tires as you just bought, then in about 10,000 miles, have them rotated to the front tires. If you don't have the money, hope you don't need them, and if you do, treat them like those stupid little emergency spares, and only run them as far as absolutely required. Then resort to plan A as soon as feasible. -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of k s swigart Sent: Saturday, December 23, 2006 7:05 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] Should I buy new spares? I recently put new tires (265/75/R16) on my truck that are slightly larger than the ones I had on there before (245/75/R16). My spares (I always carry two) are in the old size. How important is it for me to use buy new spares in the new size? Opinions please. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
