Re: FW: [RC] Horses & bikes on the trail... what to do??? #2 - SusanI would trust my Arabian not to take off at blinding speed after a spook. Sure she gets spooked sometimes but she doesn't panic. I would hope that anyone getting onto a trail where there was the possibility of mountain bikers coming down the hill would have their horse trained enough and in control enough not to take off if they were spooked. As a former mountain biker (in my 30's) and new to horseback riding (in my 40's now 50's) I would stop my bike or slowdown when I spotted a horse and rider. I’d call out to the rider if it was ok fro me to continue. They were always very nice. On the downhill I would not cut corners but go wide in case of riders or hikers. Unfortunately there are people in both worlds who do not have common courtesy or are just plain mean like bullies in school. I have a friend who had a kid on a motorcycle make spins around her and her horse several times before taking off. By then her horse was in such a panic it was sweating bullets. Fortunately she was a good rider and was able to prevent the horse from taking off…oh it was an Arabian.
