Re: [RC] another bee solution - Chelsea MarshWow! I didn't know that hornets could be such a problem since I don't have many where I live. I'm glad your horse was okay in the long run. Memo to me: Hornets....BAD! Got it! On Wed, 13 Dec 2006 09:44:35 -0800, "Mary Sutliff" <mtnrider@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> said: My husband and I were riding and ran into a ground nest. Now the mare I was riding took off and we were out of there but my husbands horse decided to stay and fight. He bucked like crazy and got stung multiple times. When Gene finally got him moving the hornets stayed attached for the ride. About half a mile away where I was waiting he stopped his horse and we had to comb the hornets out of the horses mane and tail. The horse was stung close to 100 times and started to go into shock. Fortunately we were close to the trailer and home. I called our vet on the way home and he met us there probably within 20 minutes of the episode. The horse had to be treated and since Daz is insulin resistant his feet got sore and it was several weeks before all was well again. We went back on foot and sprayed the he---- out of that nest! ----- Original Message ----- From: Joan Ruprecht To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: Howard Ruprecht ; Janet Ruprecht ; cruprecht@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; Mari Smultea ; carol crawford Sent: Wednesday, December 13, 2006 8:20 AM Subject: Re: [RC] another bee solution Dairy insectdicide powder is totally effective and leaves a nice white indicator as to where it was applied. Entering YJs carry it into the nest and take care of that for you. Also it does not distress the entering jackets. Can be done at dusk or at night witha flashlight. Very safe and very easy and verrrrrry cheap. I've also heard that hanging poisened meat near the nest works, but keep an eye on who gets the meat.
