Re: [RC] Caslicks - Rebecca FabiszakMy friend that races flat track Chariot races had his new appy filly sewn last spring. I believe the vet added a little bead so that she thought that she was pregnant. It kept her from cycling for about 4 months but I also heard that it is not to be done too much, too often. It is down because the mare will run better if they are not sucking wind. We did it on almost all of the fillies that we ran. Vet uses a little lidocaine, opens the tissue and sews closed. We have used super glue temporary, as well as duct. Yet another use for the wonder tape. The procedure only closes the upper portion of the vulva aprox1-2 inches. It is opened at the time of breeding and re sewn after conception. We generally reopen aprox two weeks before foaling.
