Yeah, I'm a high school teacher. Between quite a few holidays happening to work out with ride weekends, and two personal leave days, I just use a couple of sick days a year for rides. My principal made a joke once about getting rid of my horse and I pointed out to him that in 7 years I've never used a sick day to be sick, thus mine were always planned well in advance *and* I had a sub lined up. That puts me way ahead of the non-competing teachers in causing him inconvenience. I've just about got a system worked out now where I can plan for the students to need to watch a certain video on Big South Fork weekend, then another on Skymont, etc. :-)) I don't think I've ever taken a sick day that wasn't on Friday. When I come back after being out sick, my students say, "How'd ya do?" :-) Another good thing for me is that we go from 7:05 to 2:15 every day, so it's possible to ride in the afternoon if I need to.
