We are retired now, so haying time is the only problem.
I worked for 30 years for a fortune 500 company.  By sending my boss 
(actually his secretary) a letter with days off for rides in January, and in 
later years by filling in the electronic calendar I proved that even the 
bosses are trainable.  It only took a couple of times with each new boss to 
explain that he had to reschedule the trip or meeting before he got the 
message.  It may have cost me a promotion or two, but some things are more 
important than a job.
