[RC] Trailer Brakes!! - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Ray O'Donohue rno2m@xxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I'm convinced that 90% of the horse trailers on the road have poor brakes.Unless you buy a real top-of-the-line trailer, and maybe not even then, the wiring will be improper when it leaves the factory, even if the brakes "work". The MAIN problem as I see it is RESISTANCE in what is a fairly heavy amp load system: the wires are too fine gauge, and the connections are marginal. This has been the case with both my cheapy trailers. Similarly, most auto mechanics, however conscientious, will do the truck wiring with light wire, poor connectors, poor routing, etc. The brakes "work",but not that well, the wires are getting hot constantly, and ordinary road hazards such as moisture and vibration will quickly knock them out of commision. I suspect that brakes that can't seem to adjusted to a happy medium between too much and not enough have this problem of resistance in the wiring, but that's a guess.Factory wiring harnesses on the new trucks have sure been an improvement. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
