Re: [RC] Hay Prices - Karen SullivanPlease Reply to: Karen Nelson knelson4299@xxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I picked up 30 bales yesterday in Yerington from the Nevada Hay Growers Association location. The bales averaged about 97 pounds, 3 string, and the price was $165.00 a ton. I paid $232.65, which averages $7.76/bale. It is alfalfa-grass hay, and I think it is the last of the baling of last season. *Hm....I'd be darn glad to get hay this time of year that hadn't been rained on for that price....especially an alfalfa/grass mix. Feedstore alfalfa in Northern Calif. here is $14 and up.......we have a local trainer who imports alfalfa from northern calif and sells nice 3 string bales for $11 a bale (we pick up).... Yes, hay prices all depend on weight of bale. This year I didn't buy enough grass hay for the winter (stupid), but didn't count on extra horses; a few months ago I lucked into 2 string rye grass hay that had been stored for $2.50 a bale I pick up (my son and I got 60 some odd bales)....but they are small and I truck one or two out in my back pasture every day for the herd to clean up.....
