Call a good saddlemaker. Mine (who is not here anymore) gave
me some sort of acid to use. You swab it on and wait till it dries and
then use leather cleaner and it works great and does not hurt the leather.
I don't know what it was though. It did not bother my hands and I did not
have to use gloves...........mb
