Re: [RC] Best condition judging - Sisu West RanchMany rides also reward "high vet score". This part of the scoring does not have any points related to time or rider weight. It is interesting that both the very light and the very heavy complain about the system. The light complain about the points deduction for weight (1/2 point per pound lighter than the heaviest rider) and the heavy complain about the time factor (1 point per minute behind the fastest rider)The result is that the heavier you are, the further back you can finish and the lighter you are the faster you have to go. If you then add to this the fact (which I can sort of prove) that Light weights have an advantage over heavyweights on relatively flat rides, and that weight matters much less on mountain rides (like Big Horn) but the score system doesn't change your chances of winning BC depend partly where you ride. My bottom line: First work on proper conditioning so your horse will last a long time. Second, slowly increase your speed. Third, aim at high vet score. If you do this you may be surprised and get a BC when you least expect it.
