Re: FW: [RC] Shoers- Do you tip or gift??? - Stacy Sadar

Laura,

You hit the nail on the head regarding the fact that Christmas has gotten way out of hand!

In our family, we cherish Thanksgiving.  There are no gifts, no expectations, no how much you spent on so-and-so, etc.  We have a huge party on Thanksgiving with everyone welcome...some come to eat appetizers and drink before their family things, some come after their family get together's, some do both, and some stay all day and for dinner.  It's become a wonderful tradition with our family and friends.  We add new friends every year.  People are welcome to come and go all day.  It's so much better than buying a gift or sending money, etc.

We usually do not give gifts of any kind to anyone during the Christmas season.  Not because we are scrooges or anything, but the big reason...everyone does it...except me.  Instead, during the rest of the year, I will give my farrier and others baked goods, drinks, or a tip if they went out of their way for me that day, etc.  It's given at a time when it's least expected and I feel it's much more meaningful at that time then during Christmas.  He/She can only eat so many baked goods during Christmas!  Besides, I invite him to Thanksgiving too!

So...if there any Lost Toys out there in the North Ohio area next Thanksgiving, stop over!  Did I just say that?  Oh boy!

Well, you're talking to someone who's never even thought of doing this and never has, so what do I know?  I only have one horse, too!  OK, maybe I should've said $25/horse up to $100.
But seriously, I think Christmas has gotten way out of hand.  How many of us can afford to find gifts for our own
family, much less the horse shoer, the owner of the boarding stable, the trash man, our hair stylist, the pool guy,
the gardener, the housekeeper, and on and on and on.  (I don't have a gardener, a trash man, a gardener, or a
pool guy, but you get my drift.)  Don't we already pay all of these people very well for their services?
(Don't yell at me, you guys!  I am not saying don't do it if you want to and can afford to.)
