See wikipedia.org for a definition. Phishing e-mails aren't targeting your hard disk as many of the viruses do. PC people have to be especially vigilant about security--a firewall, maybe network address translation, anti- malware, and of course anti-virus software. And the stuff needs to be updated all the time. 1. Keep your e-mail client set to not automatically "load images" if an e-mail with images is open. Giving time to evaluate whether or not it's junk or phishing. 2. Consider running Really Good spam filtering software. SpamSieve on the Mac side is my current favorite. I agree with looking at the subject/sender, using discretion about what one opens and doesn't--just like stuff in the snail-mail box, some things just need to be junked.
