Re: [RC] [RC] Stifle surgery - Lucy Chaplin TrumbullChris wrote:why don't you try chiropractice before resorting to surgery
I'm not sure how chiropractic work would help? In many cases, strengthening the quads muscles can help - sort of does the same thing as tightening the tendons - it moves the stifle into a slightly different position so it doesn't get hooked up so easily. So doing cavaletti exercises, etc, can sometimes remedy the problem. Even something as simple as step-overs in the doorways of stalls (which I have) or around water troughs can help. In the case of this horse, it might have been her doing too much too quickly, so when she starts up again, more careful conditioning/exercises may help. It depends if that can overcome her physiology. (I seem to remember Alexandra Kurland (who is the clicker training guru) teaching her horse to do the Spanish Walk and in the process, he strengthened his muscles and his stifle problem went away.) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Lucy Chaplin Trumbull elsietee AT foothill DOT net Repotted english person in the Sierra foothills, California * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
