RE: [RC] Humor me.... - David LeBlancOne of Chelsea's many questions was: What do you guys wear at an endurance ride? I realize it's probably going to differ for each person, and that also it's a matter of what's comfortable to YOU, but give me some ideas of what you guys find comfortable. Yes, this is getting humorous, but you are asking good questions so... I wear tights from Carousel. No fancy padding, though some of my tights have leather on the knees. I used to wear t-shirts, but now favor the REI Sahara Tech Long-Sleeve Shirt - it's actually cooler. On my legs, I wear 1/2 chaps, and Ariat Terrain shoes. Most people - even men - wear tights. What do you train in? Don't change it for the ride. Another newbie rule for you - don't do anything different at the ride that you haven't already tried at home. Also, what did you guys wish you'd brought for your first ride, and what could you of left behind? As in to the ride, or while on the horse? On the horse, I had everything I needed, which wasn't much - a couple of water bottles. I could have left behind the hand-held GPS. These days I carry a leatherman since every couple of years I need something like that to repair reins or something. Used it to help a friend last ride. Get the good one with a file - you might need it to file clinches to get a bent shoe off. It's often a good idea to have an easy boot. You also asked where we sleep - I've gone to 2 extremes - at first, we used a tent. Then one morning, we woke up and it was 20 degrees out, there were icicles in the tent from our breath condensing and freezing. This wasn't fun. So the next year I had some money, and bought a humongous trailer with living quarters, and I now sleep in a comfy bed with a heater and a roof. I'm still paying for it, though... Sometimes the neighbor girl who comes with us sleeps in the tent, sometimes she sleeps in the trailer. I've known people to sleep in the backs of trucks, front of trucks, sweep out the horse area and sleep there, sleep in the dressing area of the trailer - just about everywhere. How did you plan on getting there? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
