Here is the stethoscope that I have which is great - the 3M Littman Master
Classic 2:

It is spendy, but IMO is well worth it. It has a heavy duty finger hold that
is less sensitive to finger sound than my cheapie one. And once I started
using the good one, it's the difference between driving a Porsche vs. a
Yugo.

They have a wide selection there - even a more moderately priced one would
be better than the $10-$15 models in the livestock catalogs.

Try any med supply store.  Ask your vet if you don't know of 
any.  Also, I think most of the ranch supply catalogs, 
printed and online, carry them.

Buy a good one, not top-of-the-line good, just 
well-off-the-bottom good.
