Re: [RC] Pain and stiffness after a 50, a given? - Linda S. FlemmerActually Jim, Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, not a muscle relaxant! The biggest caution that I'll make on Ibuprofen is that it IF you are dehydrated (and many endurance riders are by the half way point), you risk significant kidney damage. The damage tends to be cumulative and not immediately noticeable without lab work. Ibuprofen at the halfway point, when you go to bed afterwards, and first thing the next morning. It's a muscle relaxant. (I also supplement that with gin 'n tonics) :) Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic Richard T. EEK! You guys are scaring me with your tales of pain and stiffness after a 50. Is it really common? Seriously, I've got a plan in place to reduce the day-after 'agony' from my first 50 . I bought a truck with heated seats after hearing rave reviews (and I definitely feel pretty great after hours in the truck with that sucker on so I can see how it will help my back), and I'll use my Sumerel light therapy unit on myself as much - ok, maybe more - than I use it on my horse. I have the one you see advertised a lot in Endurance News - the ad with the horse with the funny looking light cap on - it REALLY helps with muscle tightness and soreness that I get from my chronic bad back, and last but not least I've finally found happiness with a saddle that allows me to walk upright right after dismounting (a Specialized, whereas my sport saddle created horribly tight hip flexors and caused me to walk with what appeared to be an invisible walker for about 5 minutes). Any other suggestions that don't involve drugs or alchol? he he he. Kristi (who has ridden up to 40 miles in a day but has images of those extra ten as a bit, er, tougher) Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off) ____________________________________________________________________________ ________ Yahoo!
