[RC] Enema for horses? - rides2farSo I wondered, if you suspected a horse were impacted would it help to give a Fleets enema,> like we do with the newborns? Or are they too small to be effective? Just curious. When I was 16 I had a 2 year old mare that I'd raised that just quit drinking and eating. My family did not call vets, barely had money for kid's doctor bills, so my friend looked in her Merks Vet encyclopedia and told me to give her an enema (have no idea what she was looking under, probably sheep) I wasn't sure what an enema was so had to look that up. Finally put 2 & 2 together and figured out that the old hot waterbottle with a hose on it that my mom kept in her bathroom closet had something to do with it, so I mixed up some warm soapy water, took it to the barn and other than my mare kicking a board out of the wall all went well and she eventually went poop (may have been a coincidence). All I recall is my mom's face when I walked in the back door carrying her hot waterbottle & hose. >g< (she's *not* a horse person). She was not happy, but did repeat the story to many of her friends.
