You probably would not be able to put a tool box in a shortbed and pull a gooseneck without taking great care. For long trips I have a 65 gallon water tank that I take - it fits fine in a longbed with a gooseneck. It would not fit in a bed two feet shorter without interfering with the trailer when I turn.
