You say you've never done a ride before, but you're done no matter how she vet checks! How have you gone through vet checks if you haven't done a competitive sort of ride?
As for being lame, even a slight head bob means you probably shouldn't be competing. Have you and your vet determined why your horse has so many abcesses?

Everytime I loaded up a dead lame three legged horse who couldn't trot on soft footing into the trailer I arrived at the clinic with a barely noticable head bob trotting on asphalt and gravel- but multiple abcesses were always found- usually in two hooves.
