RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] Being Prepared - Trailering Alone - Mel CochranI guess I really don't have to deal with extreme cold down here in the SE. I think the coldest temperatures that I have camped in would be the high 20's low 30's. Layers are my best friend at those temps. I wear fleece long john type shirt and pants for sleeping with some nice thick socks and a boggin secured to my head.As far as bedding is concerned, I use a twin size egg crate pad and two thermarests. That keeps me insulated from the cold ground. I have a 20 degree down sleeping bag and a fleece liner for it, it makes for a nice and toasty cocoon. I have finally mastered changing clothes inside of my sleeping bag so I don't have to expose any skin to the cold air. ;-) It also helps to have a smaller tent with a good rainfly so your body heat warms it up and the rain fly helps to hold the heat in. There tends to be a pretty good amount of condensation in the am. Call me crazy, but I actually like tent camping! It is nice to be able to hear what is going on in camp and it is fun to have a "real" camping trip with my horse. Mel But since I am starting out, I think maybe I should stick to the two horse and tent...although I hate the cold...how do you deal with the cold?
