Re: FW: FW: [RC] Over ridden? Clarification - kimfuess
Tammy,
Since you quoted my last
paragraph in your post below, I am going to explain why some of us have
responded the way we did to your post. Here is a direct quote from your
first paragraph in your original post:
"A lot of people, as usual have too strong
options with very little experience about FEI and 100 mile rides in
general. I think like everything else, you need to have some experience
before you express yourself. After reading some of these options I looked
up their ride history. One rider that seems to express themselves so much
has started 10 100's and only completed 3 and none of these rides were FEI
rides. I would say that's not a good enough record to be telling a lot of
other riders and organizations to be changing there ways at this
point.'
In your very first paragraph you state that some
people have "suggested" strong options who have very little experience in 100
mile rides in general. You also state that one needs experience before
expressing ones self. Then you go on to actually list somebody's ride
record indicating a completion record in 100s and that none of the rides
were FEI. You yourself indicate that that person's ride record was
not good enough to tell other riders and organizations "how" or to even
change. Certainly from this interpretation of what you wrote and from your
"direct" quote above, you can understand some of the responses you
received.
But, I appreciate that you clarified
that it was the "option" or the suggestion you didn't like and not the
experience level of the person making that suggestion. Not sure which
option it was as you didn't mention it specifically. There have been so many in
this discussion from shortening distances, to making a three day event, to
giving penalties for non completion of teams, to giving penalties to individual
non completers. I also didn't agree with all the "options" or suggestions
posted on ridecamp although most of the options did relate to improving
the health and safety of our horses.
Maybe this discussion on ridecamp will be the
catalyst for "experienced riders doing it right" to have discussion on the
subject. Certainly many of opinions expressed have been from what I
consider "experienced riders" so I certainly see this as a good start.

If you only want to hear the
opinions from the few AERC riders that have actually attended a Pan Am or
WEC that is one thing. And if this is the case, this is probably not a
great topic of discussion on a general endurance forum. But most AERC
riders have attended a local FEI ride because many are held in conjunction
with AERC rides. If that doesn't count in terms of being able to be
part of the discussion I understand that
also.

I'm going to repeat what I said on my first posts and at the closing
of my post, just to get this back on track.
"Some changes need to be made but lets talk it over with experienced
riders that are out there doing it right. How are they doing this
right?...and how can we apply this to an organization to enforce more safety
to the horses?"
I never said I didn't want to hear any opinions. It's the stong
options that seem to me way out of hand. I would like to hear more on
our options to apply health & safety for our horses. Not bash and
punish riders over looking at paperwork on pulls.
