Re: [RC] bute for 6 mos? - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Forget the bute....I want to know how he is 6 months after the hip break.   My old, retired endurance horse (Booy) fell in the pasture running because of a thunderstorm and broke his hip.   6 months later, (and he had gotten around fine for several months) he had such muscle atrophy that he was hardly able to get around.  I had to put him down then.  So, how is this donkey doing???  How long since the break?

Oh, and for the record. (Non-related to this post....see previous ones ) I blamed myself for him breaking that hip.....it wasn't bad luck.  I shouldn't have left him out there alone in the rain.  Personally, I don't believe in luck....it somehow comes back on the rider.  The horse didn't choose to go out on that trail, you put him there.

Can an equine be on a low dosage of bute for 6 months and still have a stomach lining after that? I have a mini donkey that had a bad accident and broke his hip. He has to be on bute 1x for 6 months. I was wondering if there was an alternative, more natural anti-inflamatory substance that I could switch him to? Any good suggestions? I was going to ask my donkey group but you guys know more about medicine. Endurance people are so knowledgable!
