RE: [RC] weeds - Steph TeeterWhile earth's records show several cycles of climate change 'Global Warming' refers to what scientists consider to be an 'accelerated, induced' rate of climate change, not merely the fact that there is a warming trend. Similarly, the problem with many exotic and invasive species is that they bring 'accelerated, induced' ecological changes. And when an agency (e.g. US Forest Service) is mandated to manage the land relative to a known ecological balance, anything that radically upsets the balance is probably going to be tagged as undesirable. I think it's best for our sport, our rides and riders, to be noninvasive :) Steph (soon headed to a warmer climate) -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Barbara McCrary Sent: Friday, November 10, 2006 6:05 PM To: Rusty Toth; ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [RC] weeds Global warming IS a natural process. At one time, Greenland was GREEN and early man actually raised crops there. We also had an ice age, from which we emerged without any help from people. Go figure. Who decided what is NATIVE? An -active ecosystem is always in a state of change and evolution is the -process of stronger species pushing out weaker ones. Just because -humans are one of the agents that cause such change, it does not mean -that we should try to put our world in stasis. Bio diversity ebbs and -flows and no one has yet determined that increased bio diversity is -always the best end. A weed is only a weed because humans call it one.----- This like saying Global warming is a natural process don't you think? Grass in the Arizona desert (growing wild now) from Aussie and Africa is not a natural process. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
