Re: [RC] [RC] Bare VS Shod: There must be a compromise - Karen Sullivan

Frank, some very good points and I want to comment on a few...

"...the sole is the support of a horses weight."   In my opinion, the sole is one "component" of the horse's  support mechanism.

*This is very true...but in many shoe jobs, the hoof wall and heels and toes are so long it takes away any function of the bars, frog and sole.

a properly shod horse's hoof's contraction and release are not affected by iron.

*This is possibly under debate....

It is the actual "structure" of the hoof,
When discussing the dynamic and fluid nature of a living organism's mechanics (the horse), it's much more than whether to pare the sole or not...for me anyway.

*One main point missing is that if the horse isn't comfortable (i.e., bad trim job, bad shoe job, founder, navicular pain, etc), then it won't move correctly, land corrently....won't load hoof property,
which can lead to a vicious cycle losing strength and functionality of structures in hoof, especially rear of hool (digital cushion and lateral cartlidges)...so yes, it really may have a huge impact is pared away
