I recalled using the Food Processor by ESHA years ago to find out how many
calories I was burning doing a dressage lesson. I remember it being
big.
Just now I Googled "calories burned riding horses" and found a website the
first click (Health status.com) that had me put in my weight and minutes riding
at a trot. Wow! I burn 1588 after 3 hours of trotting. No
wonder I am hungry, before I am done!!! That's more calories than I would
burn playing 3 hours of racquetball!

In my school girl days I played
softball for 13 years, played baskeball (stop laughing) and though I didn't
get much court time I did all the workouts, then I used to run 3 miles in
the evenings after practice. That was when I was 17. Now I'm 46 and
do endurance. I am far more muscular than when I was in team sports. My
legs looked normal back then. Now I get lovely comments like when my
daughter's partner working at Curves commented "Your mom's a beast".
>sigh< The kid's in my class shock the new kids by saying, "Mrs.
McGhee, show him your calf!" (and mine's nothing compared to a *lot* of
endurance riders!) What I really find flattering is when they say,
"Miss Clounch is *hot*. Mrs. McGhee, you look like you could kick some
butt". :-P
After years of not playing softball due to a torn ACL my
husband's family was having a family picnic and they had a softball game. I
hadn't batted in a long time and told them I really couldn't play but they
insisted. You know how those games are. The women run girly and the men
hit it into the woods so you can't find the ball. I got up to bat and
absolutely JACKED it. I mean, it went out there where they men had hit it.
It was great. I had never hit one like that back when I played on
tournament teams. Made my reputation with that one swing. I don't think
I've batted since then. So long as I don't, I can keep everyone thinking
that's my norm. >g<
Heck, I know I'm working during a ride
because I can wear a light jacket when my crew is all bundled up. I'm the
coldest natured person in the world but almost never wear more than a
t-shirt & sweatshirt jacket during
competition.
