[RC] Sallie and Kirby's First 100! - Patty StedmanI couldn't be more tickled for Sallie and her uberpony, Kirby! Reading the recent discussions about the need for doing more mileage, or harder mileage, or faster mileage in order to get prepped for a 100, all I can say is according to my "one rat study" (sorry, Ned!) is ---- HOOOEEEYYY! The toughest thing about riding a 100 is signing up for it. For we riders, it is largely a mental leap (not a physical one). If your horse has a good, solid conditioning base and tends to take good care of themselves, I say go for it. I am so desperately bummed and green with envy that I wasn't able to get down to Spook Run (which would have been Ned's third 100 this season) that I am trying to figure out how to get down to South Carolina for JD's 100 without ending up any of the following: divorced, stuck in Thanksgiving traffic, or without my largest client (who has me booked to deliver safety training on the Monday following). There is nothing more magical than a hundred (in my opinion), and you just never look at your horse the same once he's carried you that far in a single day. <Ah, I'm verklempt again!> Way to go, Sallie! --Patti Stedman (NY) Last weekend I entered and finished my first 100 mile endurance ride at Spook Run in Southern Indiana. I have dreamed of doing a 100 mile ride for nearly 10 years, but never thought I was quite ready. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
