I agree!  Whenever I ride with someone else, my horse's ears are pricked, and even if it's a trail we've done a 150 times, he's forward.  If he's on a *new* trail, he's the same way.  He just gets bored, when he knows the trail.  I understand and sympathize--I get the same way. 
 
One of these days, I can just imagine both of us quietly snoring as we amble down a trail...!

That's why when I can, I train with an older retired horse that loves to be competitive and gets my guy psyched up at home!
