Barbara, I will be 66 in 2 weeks. I started
this sport with my first ride, the Wisconsin 100 in 1970. I don't think
that there has been one year since that I have missed. I lived in Ohio
until 1993, moved to Michigan in 93. My first 50 was the Battle Creek Hunt
Club 50 in 74 or 75. Most of my miles come from MI, God's gift to the
trail rider. Competitive was what we had in the 70s and then endurance
became more common in the 80s. So I have done both. Doing two and
three day competitive rides taught me how to rate the horse so when I go to a
ride, I ride both days to get my $$ worth from the gas spent. Even as a
kid, I loved riding on trail. Showing didn't make much sense to me.
So when I discovered that one could get a ribbon just for riding miles, I was
hooked big time. The horses are simply amazing, the riders can't be
beat, the vets are a treat to be around, and my horsey buddies have been the
stuff that dreams are made of. Jeanie
