Object permanence is one of Piaget's developmental stages and something that most kids get by 2 or so....although I swear many men never really seem to get it. If they can't find the mayonnaise at the front of the fridge, then it doesn't exist and they open another jar rather than search for something that they don't believe exists.I have dogs that have figured it out and some horses who have...likewise some show no signs of getting it. My large parrots on the other hand have it down cold.
