I have the Verizon PCMCIA card (the “special card”
Robin refers to). The only problem is that if there’s no Verizon cell
coverage at ridecamp, then the card isn’t very special at all because you
can’t get on line with it. I have a two year commitment and at the end of
the two years, I probably will not renew.
There are more and more WiFi Hot Spots around (I noticed
earlier this week that rest stops along I-90 in Iowa provide wireless Internet
access) and several ride managers have had a wireless network set up that
allows those with computers that have wireless cards to get on line (John &
Steph Teeter’s rides in Oreana ID and Jan Stevens’ rides in Ft
Howes/Ashland MT).
