RE: [RC] [RC] 2007 National Championship - Jeremy Olson

Hi Steph,

Here are my thoughts on a multiday National Championship. I think that if it was a 2 day ride it might be possible, but I prefer the 1 day format. The reason I say this is the simple fact of time. I just returned from Virginia and this years NC. The trip out, back and the time at the ride itself took exactly one week. If you added 3,4 or 5 day ride in I would not be able to attend. The trip out to Idaho from Iowa will be long and then the ride and return trip, I would be looking at 2 weeks or more. This would be to long away from the farm and work and I think that others might have the same problem.

IMHO

We're going to be hosting the 2007 NC in SW Idaho next year, the end of
August. We have both mountains and desert here, sand and rock (and lizards
and bandits)and peaks at 6500 ft and lows at 2000 ft along the Snake River.
We have a 100 mile course mapped out (both mountain and desert trails) and a
55 mile mountain course. Very scenic and fairly challenging and technical.

My question to the group: what about adding a multiday championship? A 3-day
ride with all different types of terrain? The AERC BoD already approved a
3-day venue for the 2007 NC when it was scheduled to be held in New Mexico,
so the concept is not new, and there shouldn't be any resistance from the
AERC BoD. But what do you guys think? the riders? Is this something that
holds more interest than a 1-day 100? Would you be more willing to drive to
a multiday venue NC than a single day venue NC?

My own experience with managing rides is that the multiday venues are much
more fun! More time on the trail, more festive, more socializing, more time
spent getting to know each other with shared dinners every night. There are
two reasons I like to manage rides: to share trails that I love, and to have
fun - throw a big party.

So, what do you guys think?

Steph
