Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Are the LD's feeding 50's? - Soli SorokinDidn't y'all just go through this whole argument, thoroughly, last winter?I seem to recall this "newbie" issue being at the front and center of certain lines of reasoning - but didn't we establish during the last go-round that the participants in LD's were overwhelmingly NOT newbies? Which isn't to say that newbies don't exist, and shouldn't be coached - just that tailoring LD's to newbies might be missing the boat, in regards to who is actually entering them with regularity. That said, I don't enter many rides because I don't have time to travel. I've entered and completed only one 50 and one 25, both on arabs...and I've since switched to TWH's. I've got a green TWH that I took to the BSF ride to see the sights and further his experience level (I live nearby), and I ended up entering him in one of the LD's - knowing we would pull at the halfway point - merely to give him the experience and see what we needed to work on further. I didn't complain about paying virtually the same as the 50 milers, and I'm still not - but I acknowledge that it would have made more sense logically - if not financially. I'm not sure that publishing ride times, particularly after the fact, is so perilous. If I was able to enter more rides, I'd certainly be interested in those numbers, if only as a learning tool, particularly on a new horse. Anyhow, rehash away ;) I'm back to lurking. ~S http://www.gaitedsporthorses.com/DoubleT/ On 10/23/06, Diane Trefethen <tref@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Ranelle Rubin wrote: > Ok, so here is another scenario: > > On the entry form (as I have seen in the past) is a box to check if it > is your first ride. Tweak it a bit - first time rider pays a $10 or $20 premium to get a mentor and AERC picks up the difference? Or... someone else have a thought on this? Do you think that a first-time rider WOULD realize that paying 1 1/2 times the entry fee for a mentor on the trail was a good deal? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
