In 2006 the PS had the smallest LD to endurance ratio was of any other 
region. In fact while this ratio has been growing in most regions it has 
been basically flat in the PS ( actually gone down form the last few 
years ( 2006 to 2006)). This is in contrast to the MW which which has 
more LD's than endurance rides in 2006. In regions where LD has always 
been a integral part of the sport, e.g., SE , the ratio has been flat 
but it started out high. In all the other regions this ratio is growing 
significantly.

So while a few ride managers may not need the support of the LD riders - 
I suspect most do.

BTW both you and Angie forgot the Tevis.

PS: Even the Big Horn and OD now have an LD.
