Re: [RC] AERC Championship: 50 Mile Information - rides2farFrom my memory of living up there - it gets dark long before 7:30. They are a lot further North and East than you. In fact I suspect at this time of the year they only see 10:30 to 11 hours of daylight. "The shortest day of the year" is less than two months away. I'd still rather ride in the dark on a tired horse after they've all spread out than in a big hot groups pre-dawn. At least 100's are a bit more laid back since they know they have to save it. I can see that they have to be done in time for awards...but at a championship ride you wouldn't expect somebody to take 12 hrs.
