Re: [RC] My National Championship Qualifications - Truman Prevattrides2far@xxxxxxxx wrote:OK, I've come up with my idea of a National Champion (if it has to be a one day race)That was basically the first years qualifications - no one liked it. Many complained about "one season wonders" and people blowing their horses out. Tired it - didn't fly. 100 miler only. It goes back to being a championship event. Give top 10 over-all, and top 3 in weight divisions. There was overwhelming support for a 50 mile NC - that's why the BOD put one in. This proposal is a giant step backwards. The best against the best not watered down by splitting them up in several different races. The more races you have, the less likely you find out who is the "best" out there, and the less the title means. To me a multi-day would just spread the good horses out further. A few in this race a few in that one.As far as I am concerned if the NC is not run in weight divisions - you might as well not have it. IMO the biggest step forward is when the AERC formatted the NC to race in weight divisions. I guess if you want to get off the the side and have your own ceremony - that would be fine, but the current format seems is just fine the way it is. That said, I think a vote for "Horse of the Year" looking at stats would be probably a more accurate determiner of who had the best horse that year.A horse rips 'em up in the west and another rips 'em up in the east - and two shall never meet. Picking a horse of the year sure doesn't seem to make much sense. I say let 'em run. P.S. Don't know if my last post went to the list. Anybody know who picked up Joni Buttram & Cash pony?Nina Bet Jody is in a bad mood! Oh well, she was wondering how she was going to stand riding 100 today and the 50 on Aries later. She's big girl - she'll do fine. Truman
