[RC] mane mite - Diane DayBarb Peck wrote: If you live in the northern states- there might be one problem-you do have to watch out for the "Northern Fowl Mite" which will live in the skin of a horse mane, create intense itching and cause them to lose mane hair Barb - can you talk more about this? Every spring one of my horses gets an awful 'skin thing" - he gets itchy, scabby lesions and then he loses his mane. This year it spread down his neck, on to his back - all the way to the tail. Wierd. I found a product, M-T-G, from Shapleys that was very helpful but I still ended up having to get him a Prednisone injection. He is the only one out of 7 horses to get it. We are not in the north though - we are in SW Oklahoma. I also have a springer spaniel who suffers from some kind of something - maybe an allergy- but she scratches all the time. She has to get Prednisone too. Vet has no clue what it is. Started after she was "assaulted" by a neighborhood sc-hound-rel and got brucellosis. Dont know if thats a link. But do you know if this mite thing affects dogs? Thanks for any info DianeD -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
